Book Giveaway Winners!

Hey everyone!

So today is the day when I announce the winners of the first ever Viking Reviews Book Giveaway. First of all, thanks to everyone who entered the giveaway. There was 9 competitors, but at the end I had to exclude two, because they did not follow the rules and share the post.

Because it was such a small number I went with the Random Name Picker, and wrote all of you in there. As stated in the rules, those who followed me before the giveaway got two entries.

Without further ado, let us get to the draw. First, the winner of a Handmade bookmark from CrochetByRine.

IT IS BRITTANY! Congratulations! You win a handmade bookmark!

While Brittany is celebrating, we are moving on to draw the winner of the book of their choice. The pot stays the same.

AND THE BIG WINNER IS ELIZABETH M. HERRERA! You win When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi! Congratulations!

Both winners – shoot me a message through my Contact page with your personal information included.

A big thank you again, to everyone who participated. Some of you did not have the luck today, but I am sure you will have it the next go-around. Yes, I am planning another Giveaway, but let that remain a bit of a secret for now.

Book Giveaway!

To celebrate 1000 followers, I have decided to host this giveaway. But first, a few words to thank you all.

When I started this blog on the 22nd of February, it was more of an experiment. I wanted to use it to have something that is mine, to do something that I like. Followers were never my concern and to be honest, if I would have reached 100 that would have been an amazing achievement for me. The first 100 came and after that, the number grew and grew and here we are today, at an amazing 1000 followers. My first post was titled “A New Journey” and boy, what a journey it has been. I know these two words sound so soulless by now, after being said so many times, but THANK YOU. To each and every one of you, who have been with me on this journey. I hope it lasts.

Now, back to the giveaway. To host this giveaway I will be using Book Depository. I will, however, make things a bit more interesting. Instead of offering just one book that you all compete for, I will be offering three different books, and the winner will be able to choose ONE of the three. I want to do this because I do not want to force people to read something they do not like. Or rather, people will not even apply for this giveaway, if they do not like the book, and because I would like as many people as possible to participate, I think this is the best way to do it.

This giveaway is not sponsored by Book Depository or WordPress!

That being said, here are the three books you get to choose from:

It by Stephen King

‘They float…and when you’re down here with me, you’ll float, too.’To the children, the town was their whole world. To the adults, knowing better, Derry Maine was just their home town: familiar, well-ordered for the most part. A good place to live.It is the children who see – and feel – what makes the small town of Derry so horribly different. In the storm drains, in the sewers, IT lurks, taking on the shape of every nightmare, each one’s deepest dread. Sometimes IT reaches up, seizing, tearing, killing . . .Time passes and the children grow up, move away and forget. Until they are called back, once more to confront IT as IT stirs and coils in the sullen depths of their memories, reaching up again to make their past nightmares a terrible present reality.

When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi

When Breath Becomes Air

At the age of thirty-six, on the verge of completing a decade’s training as a neurosurgeon, Paul Kalanithi was diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer. One day he was a doctor treating the dying, the next he was a patient struggling to live. When Breath Becomes Air chronicles Kalanithi’s transformation from a medical student asking what makes a virtuous and meaningful life into a neurosurgeon working in the core of human identity – the brain – and finally into a patient and a new father. What makes life worth living in the face of death? What do you do when when life is catastrophically interrupted? What does it mean to have a child as your own life fades away? Paul Kalanithi died while working on this profoundly moving book, yet his words live on as a guide to us all. When Breath Becomes Air is a life-affirming reflection on facing our mortality and on the relationship between doctor and patient, from a gifted writer who became both.

Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur

Milk and Honey

Milk and Honey is a collection of poetry and prose about survival. About the experience of violence, abuse, love, loss, and femininity. The book is divided into four chapters, and each chapter serves a different purpose. Deals with a different pain. Heals a different heartache. Milk and Honey takes readers through a journey of the most bitter moments in life and finds sweetness in them because there is sweetness everywhere if you are just willing to look.

As with every giveaway, there are a few rules:

  1. Make sure that Book Depository ships to your country!
  2. Share this post, so others have a chance to participate (the shared post has to be on your blog until the end of the giveaway).
  3. Leave a comment, stating which book out of the three you would like to read. The comment has to be under this post. Nowhere else!

The winner will be announced on 21st of October, 2017 at 12:00 UTC+2. The decision will be made by a random number or name (depends on how many participants there will be) shuffle. Video proof will be posted.

After the winner has been announced, they will have a week to email me their personal information. If they do not, another winner will be chosen.

Following my blog is not necessary! I do not want to have new followers just because of the giveaway, and have them have zero interest in my content.

Now, because I want this to be fair, considering the statement above, I have decided that everyone that has been a follower from 1-1000, will get two entries. This means, you have a higher chance of winning. I think this is fair, as I would not have reached so many followers without you clicking that button, and I want to give you a slightly higher chance of winning. That is the least I can do.

This is not all!

I will also choose another person (from all of you who will be competing) that is going to win a handmade bookmark from CrochetByRine. The bookmark color will be random, because what her shop has to offer might change in the meantime.

Good luck to everyone!
